This big blue bowl has been the perfect container for loads of different messy and sensory play sessions. It kind of keeps the mess contained and baby B liked sitting in it from about 6 to 9 months and loves climbing out of it.
There are so many things in the kitchen that make brilliant exploratory play opportunities for babies and most of it is really cheap. The bowl was quite expensive but we use it as a paddling pool and ball pool too so is worth it. It's noce to add music and the buuble machine for even more sensory fun.
Our favourite activities:
Porridge Oats: great for pouring, scooping and exploring with tiny hands. A set of measuring spoons make good scoops.
Cheerios: good for practicing fine motor skills and pincer grip as they will eat loads! Empty yogurt pots are good for filling and tipping out.
Fabric: a lovely calm activity for exploring texture and colour. And no mess at all! I used bits from my scraps bag, ribbons and wash cloths.
Instant mashed potato: messy and mouldable. We used wooden spoons for mixing and squiched it into yogurt pots. This was the only one he didn't put in his mouth!
Squirty cream: the messiest but the most fun!
Dried pasta: good for scooping, fine motor skills and easy to clear up. Could also use cooked pasta for a different texture.
Jelly and Angel Delight: a good one for cooling down on a hot day with the paddling pool ready to wash off the mess.
Water with different sponges: another hot day one. Good for squeezing and feeling different textures.
